It's a new creature in the maritime world, and like most new creature needs some time to evolve. It's a container ship that can ply the not so deep open seas from continental Europe to, say, the United Kingdom and Scandinavia, or hug the coast all the way down to Portugal. It can also travel on inland rivers. 'It's a new concept and a new market, and we are just at the beginning of developments,' says Sijmen Vonk, managing director of Amasus Shipping, which is based near Delfzijl in the northeastern corner of The Netherlands.
