As ships become larger, the passage of mega cruise ships built at the German Jos Meyer Shipyard becomes ever more difficult. The very narrow and shallow river Ems leading from the shipyard to open water is a bottleneck for new ships being built at the Papenburg-based shipyard. This voyage was recently made by the largest cruise ship ever constructed by Meyer: Royal Caribbean's 'Radiance of the Seas'.
