MARIN employees, partners and their subcontractors have been working hard on the realisation of the new, innovative research facility of MARIN - the Seven Oceans Simulator centre. On May 28, the final milestone will be reached with the official opening of the new centre.
The virtual test facility consists of a dome-shaped Large Motion Simulator, a full mission bridge (including two bridge wings), four multipurpose simulators, a laboratory for Traffic Management/Mission Control research and a Maritime Experience Lab where Virtual/Augmented Reality can be combined with motion and haptics. Furthermore, it includes human factor measurement and observation technology, which can be flexibly deployed for simulations of complex maritime operations.

FINAL STEPS IN marin's new and impressive simulator building
To give an idea of the impressive scale of the works in numbers, the SOSc comprises 200 high-end computer systems, 50 projectors, more than 100 monitors, 1 large 14-tonne hexapod and 1 small hexapod, nearly 30 bridge consoles, over 100 ship controls and navigational instruments, a cable robot, VR/AR equipment and kilometres of wiring! Soon the final tests will be completed, and we’ll conduct our first simulation projects in the SOSc.
The Large Motion Simulator
MARIN - Seven Oceans Simulator Centre (SOSc)
With this new research facility, MARIN aims to make maritime operations safer and more efficient through the most realistic simulation of the behaviour of and the interaction between maritime structures, ships, the environment and humans. The SOSc will be operational at the beginning of 2024.
