A more complete understanding of ship behaviour in waves, together with the presently available detail in wind-wave climatology on shipping routes and the recent development of scenario simulation tools make it possible to quantify the impact of weather on the performance and reliability of marine transport. The present paper highlights the technique and sample applications.
