MARIN again performed measurements on flexible propellers using digital stereo imaging techniques (DIC). This video presents the deformation of composite propeller blades when they pass the wake peak. The propeller is made of an isotropic foam material. Our new five-axis milling machine made it possible to produce this special propeller. The measurements were performed in our upgraded cavitation tunnel, using two high speed cameras, advanced lighting and dedicated analysis software.

This project is carried out for the Cooperative Research Ships (CRS) working group under project COMPROP 2, with the aim to gather validation data for the COMPROP application software. This software can assist in calculating propeller deformations in design stage.
