MARIN Moses pilot demonstration

MOSES

PILOT DEMONSTRATION AUTONOMOUS SHIPPING

MARIN has designed an innovative container feeder vessel, including solutions for zero emission propulsion and autonomous operation. The autonomous operation will be demonstrated using a scale model of the vessel in MARIN's Seakeeping and Manoeuvring Basin. We invite you to attend this demonstration on September 14, 2023. The programme includes technical presentations, lunch and informal drinks. The event is invite-only, please register before September 1, 2023.
See below for Invitation programme and Registration.

MOSES Project

MARIN is a partner in the EU funded MOSES project (AutoMated Vessels and Supply Chain Optimisation for Sustainable ShortSEa Shipping). The aim of MOSES project is to enhance the SSS component of the European supply chain by addressing the vulnerabilities and strains related to the operation of large containerships. A two-fold strategy will be followed, in order to reduce the total time to berth for TEN-T Hub Ports and to stimulate the use of SSS feeder services to small ports that have limited or no infrastructure.

The project scope includes the development of several innovations:

  • Design of an innovative container feeder vessel (MOSES Feeder) with different zero emission energy concepts. Autonomous operation of the vessel is also investigated. The feeder will be equipped with a robotic container-handling system, capable of loading and unloading containers at small ports with limited infrastructure.
  • Development of a system for autonomous vessel manoeuvring and docking (MOSES AutoDock), consisting of a coordinated swarm of autonomous tugboats and an automated docking system.
  • Creation of a digital collaboration and matchmaking platform (MOSES platform) to match supply and demand in SSS container transport, using Machine Learning (ML) and data driven analytics.

MOSES Consortium

The project consortium consists of 17 partners from 7 EU countries, united in a common vision to enhance the sustainable short-sea shipping through the achievement of beyond state-of-the-art applied know-how and technological developments. MOSES team is composed of system and automation designers (NTUA, MARIN, ASTANDER, CORE, ESI, DANANOS and TNO), maritime logistics and supply chain experts (SEABILITY and CIRCLE), technology platform providers (MacGregor, Trelleborg and TUCO), regulatory organizations (DNV-GL), and stakeholders and end-users (SAT, Fundación Valenciaport, PCT, and MHM).

Registration

You can register for the pilot demonstration until September 1, 2023. Participation is free of charge.
