Capacity studies
What is the effect of climate change – for instance extreme high or low water - on shipping? What is the effect of vessels platooning on rivers on the overall transport capacity? How is the effectiveness of shipping influence by the construction of a new bridge or lock?
We have developed dedicated simulation tools to study the transport capacity of waterways. SIMDAS is a program for determining capacities of (inland) navigational channels; SIVAK is a program capable of determining capacities of locks and bridges. MARIN can perform capacity studies to assess the capacity of existing waterways, to evaluate measures to improve the capacity or to compare design variants.
