One of the most important developments for the use of side-by-side offloading is the import of LNG. Side-by-side can be from a floater but also from a terminal or a GBS.
To include the side-by-side offloading, the wave motions between the vessels need to be described in a reliable way as these influence the relative ship motions and mooring line tensions. Therefore a second phase of the project is proposed in which MARIN and Bureau Veritas will use their experience to bring these simulations a step further and to include the new findings in the shuttle tool.
The scope of work defined in this proposal has two major goals:
- Get further insight in the hydrodynamics of two vessels in close proximity;
- Extend the shuttle tool for side-by-side offloading (from a floater, GBS or terminal).
For the research into ship interaction MARIN will work together with Bureau Veritas. Bureau Veritas will especially participate in the hydrodynamic modelling.
